The Meaning Behind Affective Growth

  • Americal Psychlogical Association (APA) defined affect as “any experience of feeling or emotion, ranging from suffering to elation, from the simplest to the most complex sensations of feeling, and from the most normal to the most pathological emotional reactions”

  • “Affective Growth” reflects a blend of meaning and intention. It draws from the psychological term affect, highlighting emotion, experience, and what is felt in the therapeutic space, while also evoking “Effective growth” through a subtle play on words. The name captures both the depth of therapy and the hope within it: honoring the heaviness people may carry while working toward growth, healing, and greater lightness along the way.

  • The lotus in Affective Growth’s logo reflects the heart of the therapeutic process: growth that emerges not in spite of difficulty, but through it. Just as the lotus rises from murky water into bloom, therapy honors the depth of emotional experience while supporting movement toward clarity, lightness, and meaningful change.
